The Observatory of Institutional Male Violence (OVIM) expresses its rejection of the decision by the Andalusian Center for Letters and the Ministry of Culture to schedule the book presentation in a public space. 'This doesn't exist: False accusations of gender violence' by Juan Soto Ivars, whose content and public statements fuel the myth of false accusations, a false and dangerous discourse that discredits the victims of gender violence.
We remind you that:
- Law 16/2003, of December 22, of the Andalusian System of Libraries and Documentation Centers requires that cultural programming in public libraries promote democratic values and respect for fundamental rights.
- Organic Law 1/2004, of December 28, on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence and the State Pact against Gender Violence establish that public administrations cannot disseminate or legitimize messages that question the credibility of victims or minimize gender violence.
- Denialism is a form of institutional violence that hinders access to rights and reinforces distrust towards women who report abuse, and the use of a public library as a platform for discourse contrary to women's human rights is especially serious.
In a particularly serious context with thirteen femicides in Andalucía So far in 2025, giving institutional space to discourses that trivialize sexist violence is irresponsible and contrary to the public interest.
We demand the immediate cancellation of the event, a review of cultural programming protocols, and the adoption of measures to ensure that public spaces remain committed to equality, the protection of victims, and respect for women's human rights.
